{"id":216,"date":"2011-12-22T02:43:31","date_gmt":"2011-12-22T02:43:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/screeners.iamaw.ca\/?p=216"},"modified":"2011-12-24T01:20:44","modified_gmt":"2011-12-24T01:20:44","slug":"216","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/screeners.iamaw.ca\/?p=216","title":{"rendered":"ExpressJet Flight Attendants Vote \u2018Yes\u2019 for Machinists Union"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><\/strong>In an election prompted by the merger of ExpressJet Airlines and<br \/>\nAtlantic Southeast Airlines, the International Association of Machinists and<br \/>\nAerospace Workers (IAM) emerged as the clear winner in a contest to<br \/>\ndetermine union representation rights for more than 2,160 Flight Attendants. <!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday\u2019s victory is the result of an extraordinary campaign among Flight<br \/>\nAttendants from both carriers,\u201d said IAM General Vice President Robert<br \/>\nRoach, Jr. \u201cFlight Attendants carefully compared their options, and chose the<br \/>\nonly union with a proven track record of industry leading contracts that<br \/>\nprovide the higher wages, job security and scheduling flexibility that Flight<br \/>\nAttendants desire.<\/p>\n<p>The election, which was conducted by the National Mediation Board<br \/>\n(NMB), was between the IAM, which represented 1,150 ExpressJet Flight<br \/>\nAttendants, and the Association of Flight Attendants-Communications<br \/>\nWorkers of America (AFA-CWA), which represented 1,010 Flight Attendants at<br \/>\nAtlantic Southeast Airlines.<\/p>\n<p>According to the NMB, the IAM received 1,065 votes, while the AFACWA<br \/>\nreceived 666 votes. There were 26 vote for \u201cNo Union.\u201d<br \/>\nThe Machinists Union has already begun the process of negotiating a<br \/>\nsingle collective bargaining agreement for the combined Flight Attendant<br \/>\ngroup.
