{"id":3155,"date":"2018-08-10T10:19:58","date_gmt":"2018-08-10T14:19:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/screeners.iamaw.ca\/?p=3155"},"modified":"2018-08-10T10:19:58","modified_gmt":"2018-08-10T14:19:58","slug":"contract-offer-rejected","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/screeners.iamaw.ca\/?p=3155","title":{"rendered":"Contract Offer Rejected"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Screeners reject contract offer from Garda, strike vote not yet served<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>For immediate release<\/em><\/p>\n<p>9 August, 2018<\/p>\n<p>Toronto, ON &#8211; Pre-Board Screening officers at Toronto\u2019s Pearson and Billy Bishop airports have rejected Garda\u2019s final offer regarding negotiations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe employees have rejected this unacceptable offer and have authorized the Machinists Union to take strike action\u201d said General Chairperson Barry Barnett. \u201cWe have not served strike notice at this time, and, accordingly, we will continue to serve the flying public with our usual professional standards\u201d, he added.<\/p>\n<p>Garda is a private company that is a service provider on behalf of the Canadian Air Transportation Security Authority (CATSA), a crown corporation which collects fees from the travelling public to provide pre-board security screening for flights.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe annual amount of money spent by CATSA comes from the Air Traveler\u2019s Security charge. Millions of dollars that are collected are not utilized for security only, and is used for general revenue. The monies being collected should be used to provide security, and security only \u201c, said Barnett.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHopefully, Garda &amp; CATSA will realize that this offer must be improved.
