Toronto Screeners

Message from President Farooq Hamid

Sept 25 , 2011

To my fellow colleagues,

Here is my update regarding court proceedings. On Sept 12 my lawyer requested the earliest possible court date in front of a judge due to the urgency of the situation. Unfortunately, the date received was Mar 07, 2012. Such a late court date was unexpected and very disappointing. Other legal proceedings are also being followed up. Please be reminded that until a judge hears my case, the CAWU executives and GARDA have wrongfully denied me access and participation in all union affairs.

With the delay of the court date and the fact that the CAWU executives refuse to recognize me as your elected President and furthermore have denied adding me to the CAWU payroll since being elected, I have been left with no option but to return to work at GARDA. Contrary to the charge by the four CAWU executives against their President, the CAWU always has received and continues to receive all union funds from GARDA without even a penny being redirected to any other address or account by the President.

I am continuing my employment with GARDA on my regular morning shift

0300-1100 as an L3 screening officer at Terminal 1 with Tuesdays and Wednesdays off. I look forward to seeing you in the workplace.

I want to thank all of you from the bottom of my heart for all your support and your concern. I want to remind everyone that good things come to those who persevere and exercise patience. With continued effort we will remove those who are manipulating the membership for their own personal gains and strive towards a union that truly represents the best interests of its members. You deserve a union that will give you nothing but honesty, dedication and respect for all members with a commitment to better the work environment. I strongly believe that the truth will prevail and that all of you will be known either as those that supported the truth or those that did not. With God’s grace and your support we will achieve our goals.

Please feel free to share this with all those who support us and those that do not.

Best Regards from your President
Farooq Hamid
