SCREENERS CONFERENCE PART 2

Many topics were discussed during the Screeners Conference, one in particular regarded the disservice towards Airport Screeners by the Harper Government.

Since 2010 the Government has reduced the number of Screeners by close to 2000 Screeners. The extra revenue the Harper Government gains from job cuts, is put towards the Government deficits. The Government has reduced passenger safety while increasing passengers wait times, frustration and stress.

Screeners who attended the Screeners Conference expressed to NDP’s, Olivia Chow, Mike Sullivan and Rosane Doré Lefebvre that Screeners are being Overworked; Delayed lunch breaks, extensive waiting for washroom breaks, dealing with angry passengers because there are not enough Screeners on the floor to efficiently run the lounges and ultimately their disappointment in the Harper Government thus far.

This conference has shown that Screeners have to take a stand! Screeners need to stop waiting for things to get better; nothing gets done when there is no action involved. The Unions need our help in lobbying MPs and adding our voices to theirs.

WE NEED TO TAKE A STAND BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE!

A list of Ontario MP’s will be released soon, please take the time to contact your respective MP and let them know that you don’t agree with the Harper Government cutting jobs to cover the Governments deficits!
