BARGAINING KICK-OFF!

Local Lodge 2921 will be holding a Bargaining Kick-off for the Bargaining Committee. Lets send our Bargaining Committee off with a bang! Let them know that we support and believe in them!

All Terminals (1,3 and 5) will have a Bargaining Kick-off event where Screeners can grab good food and enjoy a great atmosphere while socializing with fellow screeners over a bite.

Of course, your Bargaining Committee will also be there to listen to and talk to you about what you want on your next CBA (Collective Bargaining Agreement).

Negotiations for the CBA will begin September 30, 2014.

The dates for the Bargaining Kick-off Event will be posted soon, so keep your eyes out for more information!

DONT FALL VICTIM TO INTIMIDATION!

As many of you are aware, the CAWU representatives are walking around the terminals and the train station, if you feel that you are being harassed to sign a card you have the right to say NO!
Don’t feel obligated to sign any cards from any other unions. Call upon your union if you feel like you are being harassed.

We are here to protect you!

LABOUR DAY PARADE

Come join the IAMAW for their annual Labour Day Parade on September 1, 2014.

The IAMAW will march from a designated area to the CNE. Once at the CNE, ALL PARTICIPANTS and their family/friends (whomever marched) will receive FREE entry into the CNE.

IMPLEMENTATION OF CHAIRS

For those Screeners who have not heard IAM has won the fight to implement chairs at all Toronto NPS locations.
IAM researched, compiled and presented CATSA with a study, “Prolonged Standing at Our Work Place” forcing CATSA to re-evaluate the Health and safety conditions for Screeners.

Ultimately, the struggle for the implementation of chairs at NPS locations in Toronto was won.

Unfortunately that wasn’t the case for the LOU 7 arbitration decision, which was the last of the 300 grievances, inherited from the CAWU. With a limited amount of information inherited from the CAWU. The IAM tried their best to argue their case to arbitrator Keller however with the limited amount of information IAM received IAM was unsuccessful in winning LOU 7.

Although that may seem like a loss IAM has consistently fought to regain those affected by LOU 7 their Full-time position back. As of today the IAM has regained almost every one of those members affected, their full time status without the loss of their seniority.

Transfers

IAMAW and Garda recognize two types of transfers, Operational requirement and Mutual transfers.

Operational Requirement: This is when the employer requires movement from terminal to terminal on a permanent basis. In this instance, the employer will post a bulletin with the number of transfers required between terminals and by status of full and/or part time. All interested active employees may submit a Transfer Request Form. Transfers will be granted to interested employees based on they’re screening seniority. In case of insufficient volunteers to fill the company requirements, the company will fill vacant positions by reverse seniority.
Operational Requirement transfers may happen at any time of the year.

Mutual Transfer: This is when an active employee requests a transfer to move to another terminal. All interested active employees may submit a Transfer Request Form.

Monthly Meeting

It is customary that due to summer vacations the Local Lodge July and August Monthly Meetings will not commence. September 18,2014 Monthly Meetings will resume and continue every third Thursday of the month.

Please be aware of your actions!

We are reminding you to be aware of your actions when you take information to management about one of your coworkers.

This will affect the member and possibly jeopardize their job or position, which impacts their personal life.

Keep in mind, that your Union spends your dues in legal fees to defend that member in order to have them returned to their job
