Communicator training – FOR ALL

On 22nd March 2016, members of the Executive Board Shilpa Athwal (Communicator) Gbenga Olu (President) Amandeep Singh Buttar (Vice-president) Caterina Barone (Recording Secretary) and Barrington (Barry) Barnett (General Chairperson) from Local Lodge 2921 attended a Communicator Training. This training was facilitated by Frank Saptel (Territorial Communications Representative) and other Grand Loadge Reps such as Heather Kelley, Carlos Da Costa, and Bill Trbovich.

Throughout the course of the training we watched a movie called “Mouseland” which illustrates the importance of why it is very important for union members to be part of political action.

The training materials included: handouts, a PowerPoint presentation, the movie, and lots of vigorous discussions!

We were also taught the different ways of how good communications between the Local Lodge, Grand Lodge and the members impacts our members and helps them to be informed of new things going on within our union. Not only is it the responsibility of one person to keep the members updated but if we all work together as a team, the communication throughout the local becomes that much easier.

The Local Lodge communicator training took place at IAM District Lodge 78’s offices on Dixon Road.
