Progress continues!

During the week of March 19, 2012, a number of issues have been concluded.

  1. The IAM met with Garda, and agreed to the following:
    • Establish a process to handle all outstanding grievances and arbitrations.
    • Start the bargaining process for a new collective agreement by issuing our letter of intent to begin bargaining to GARDA.
    • Having the company recognise 24 shop stewards rather than the 12 presently specified in the current collective agreement under Article 3, section 3.1.
  2. We began the process of electing new shop stewards by opening nominations for these positions. Soon, nominations for the Negotiations Committee will begin, with details to follow shortly.

NOTE:  As December 31, 2011 was the deadline date to sign IAM membership cards to authorise our application to the Canadian Labour Relations Board for certification as a bargaining unit, we have determined that this is the date to be used in establishing an IAM member in good standing for these elections.

Therefore, those who have joined the IAMAW as of December 31, 2011 are eligible to vote for these positions.
IAMAW members in good standing and who have 1 year of service with Garda, as per Article 3, section 3.1(d) and Article 23, section 23.2, are eligible to run for these positions.

Thank you for your support and cooperation during this transition period.

STAY STRONG!
