To All IAM Screeners at YYZ and YTZ–Re: GARDA LAYOFFS

The IAM met with Garda yesterday to discuss the Garda screeners’ layoff. We were successful in minimizing the layoff numbers, but not all.  Since we don’t believe the announced screener layoff is within the rules and the spirit of the collective agreement, the IAM is filing a grievance. RE: OCTOBER 18, 2012 UPDATE

Over the last two days the IAM has consulted with our legal counsel about the legality of the announced Garda screener layoffs. The next step will be announced soon. Layoff News – October 17, 2012

In a meeting today, Garda informed the IAM that they will lay off 206 Full Time Screeners and replace them with 237 Part Timers as early as November 28. These devastating cuts announced by Garda will have a negative impact on all Screeners and the traveling public.
