To All IAM Screeners at YYZ and YTZ–Re: GARDA LAYOFFS

The IAM met with Garda yesterday to discuss the Garda screeners’ layoff. We were successful in minimizing the layoff numbers, but not all.  Since we don’t believe the announced screener layoff is within the rules and the spirit of the collective agreement, the IAM is filing a grievance. Nominations for LL 2921 Executive Board will be held on November 15th, 2012, at the Sheraton Gateway Hotel in the Zermatt room. A Union meeting will be held for the nominations and to update the membership about ongoing events through:  Chief Steward reports, General Chairperson reports, DL 140 Secretary Treasurer report for LL 2921, arbitration updates, and Shop stewards meeting report. RE: OCTOBER 18, 2012 UPDATE

Over the last two days the IAM has consulted with our legal counsel about the legality of the announced Garda screener layoffs. The next step will be announced soon. To minimize the proposed Garda screening position cuts, the Union has met with Garda’s scheduling department to scrutinize their proposed fall shift schedule.
